and service.
North Florida HOBY, a regional chapter of the nationally recognized Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership, led ambassadors through four days of activities focused on leadership and service. Elite high school representatives from Pensacola, Jacksonville, Ocala, and all points in between participated in activities aimed at building confidence in their leadership and critical thinking abilities.
The Ambassadors began their weekend with a tour of the state capital. Their stops included the Florida House of Representatives chambers where the ambassadors were met by several local legislators. While in the chambers, the Ambassadors debated mock bills and created legislation. The Ambassadors also toured the Florida Supreme Court and the Florida Museum of Natural History.
The extended weekend also allowed the ambassadors to flex their service muscles. On Saturday, the more than 90 ambassadors participated in service projects throughout the city of Tallahassee. They also received disaster preparedness training from local Red Cross volunteers.
Saturday night ambassadors showed off their artistic talents through music, skits, magic, and theatre.
On Sunday, the Ambassadors were joined by their parents at a banquet held at the Elks Lodge. During this event, a panel of experts was assembled to help the parents and ambassadors begin planning for their future college endeavors.
The HOBY Mission
Started in 1958 by legendary actor Hugh O'Brian (TV's Wyatt Earp), the HOBY program nationally reaches out to every public and private high school - as well as conducting HOBY-style programs internationally including efforts in Bolivia, Canada, Mexico, China, Korea, Taiwan and Israel. Its mission: to provide lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential.
Our Vision
HOBY's vision is "To motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference within our global society through understanding and action based on effective and compassionate leadership." HOBY's success is the direct result of its 4,000 national volunteers who plan and execute its programs - Leadership Seminars, Alumni activities and Community Leadership Education Workshops.
